Aistear is our Structured Learning through Play Programme. Children learn most effectively by playing. We have structured play four times a week in our class for 40 minute sessions. There are four stations in the classroom and the groups rotate through each of these - Role Play, Small World, Malleable Play and Junk Art. In October our topic was Hallowe'en. The children learned a lot of prescribed oral language, in English and Irish. We worked on fine motor skills, social skills (sharing, taking turns, playing together) . Creativity is given free reign at the Junk Art station while adhering to the current topic. It was great fun! Spells were written, potions were created, haunted houses and other spooky things were built.
