Hello everyone,
I hope that you all had an enjoyable bank holiday weekend and could make the most of this glorious sunshine. I have included some ideas for an eSports week as we would have been holding our Sports Day in June. Have a good week and as always, feel free to email me if you have any queries or to keep me up to date with your child's learning.
Tuesday 2nd June
English:
Oral language:
We have now finished the Starlight programme for Junior Infants so there are no big books or posters for oral language work this week. You can however continue to discuss and ask questions about the stories you read aloud and any readers you manage to cover.
Reading:
As before for readers:
Oxford Owls have a free e-book library which is very good for supplementary reading: home.oxfordowl.co.uk/books/free-ebooks/
Note: You will need to set up an account to view the books (if you have not done so already). Then browse by Oxford Level. It is best to start with less challenging material and move up through the levels. The Oxford Reading Tree books are most suitable
Reading Egg https://app.readingeggsjunior.com/
If you would like to try some new readers or want a change from the above readers the Jolly Phonics programme has made all their readers available as e-readers for free until the 30th June. The Red and Yellow levels are the most suitable.

Another good website with access to graded readers is Harper Collins Big Cats.

Word Families
To help with sounding out and blending short words you could concentrate on different word families. I will add two a week for you to focus on, one on Mondays and one on Wednesdays. Use the sounds of each letter to read the words. The girls could try and think of other words that belong to the word family for that day. This is also a good rhyming activity, an important skill for learning to read.
Word Family 3 -og
fog, log, bog, cog, hog, tog, jog, dog
Writing:
You can continue writing your name with as many joined letters as you can.
You could also write some of the -og words and draw pictures to illustrate them if you liked.
Today’s letter to revise is k
What sound does it make? What starts with this sound?
Use this rhyme to help practice writing:

Maths:
Continue counting forwards and backwards within ten. Have fun with it!!
Don’t forget the Super Hero Zero song : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RfIKqkvHTY
And counting to 20 if you would like to give it a go! https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tVP1zc0TDOqyEoqS8oyYPTiTs4vzStRKMlXMDIAAH1dCJE&q=count+to+20&oq=count+to+20&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j46j0l5j46.4180j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
The sound of number game:
Drop counters into a container counting them out loud as you do so. Get the girls to count aloud with you ensuring they only count the counter when it hits the bottom of the box. Children close their eyes and count out loud the counters dropping into the container. Children close their eyes and count the counters dropping silently in their head.
This week the children are beginning some simple addition tasks. Ask some questions such as ‘I have 3 red crayons and 1 blue one, how many do I have altogether? I have 4 green pieces of Lego, and 1 yellow piece, how many do I have altogether?’ etc.
