Hello everyone,
It's hard to believe that we are at the end of the school year. It has been a strange and trying time for us all. I wish you all a happy summer. I encourage the girls to keep reading from one of the eReader series that I have listed on the blog. Literacy is the key to everything! Thank you to all the parents who have been supportive to my endeavours during the year. This is a really lovely class and I wish them all well in Senior Infants. Take care everyone, every best wish N Trench. BiMonday 22nd June

Word Family 7 -en -hen, pen, den, men, ten, zen, ben, then Sharing a story together: Camille and the Sunflowers by Laurence Anholt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqK6Iwwg96U As we usually learn about planting and growing sunflowers at this time of year it is a nice time to read about Van Gogh and his love of the bright, happy sunflower. There are some resources in the art section on Friday about Van Gogh if you would like to take a look. Also, this story by Laurence Anholt is a nice, child friendly insight into the painter’s life. As you read you can help your daughter engage with the story using similar activities to the Starlight posters and big books: Make predictions- They can make clever guesses about what they think might happen in the story based on clues from the title and illustrations on the cover. Talk to your child about money. ‘What do you know about money? Why do we need it? What money have you seen? (Coins and paper money) Where is money kept? (Bank/Post Office) Do you have a piggy bank? What do you buy with your money? And so on. Create a little shop and price the items from 1 cent to 5 cent. Show your child 1 cent coins. Get the child to buy little items from 1 cent to 5 cent using the 1 cent coins. Introduce 2 cent and 5 cent coins. Some children will be quicker to realise that 2 cent is the same as 1 cent and 1 cent. Do not worry unduly if she takes a little time to grasp this concept.
